Top 8 Uses of Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil has hundred of uses that many are unaware of, it's really quite the household treasure. From hair, skin, antibacterial uses, and more, coconut oil is a universal tool that everyone should keep in the home! Today I'll just give you my personal top 8 uses of coconut oil.

1. Skin Care

Coconut oil is a fantastic skin moisturizer that is light and not overly oily. I prefer to use it immediately after a shower to lock in the moisture. Coconut oil has anti-fungal properties that help to rid the face of unwanted acne and oil deposits. It's also a great moisturizer that helps speed up the healing process of scratches and scrapes.

2. Hair Care

Coconut oil easily penetrates the hair shaft which makes it a great moisturizer for all hair types. It also helps prevent protein loss from your hair shaft as well. Other hair uses include fighting frizz, split end repair, color damage, and hiding dandruff (but be careful if you are in a cool climate not to use much because coconut oil will solidify in cool temperatures meaning it may make your dandruff look worse.

3. Make Up Remover

Ever get tired of spending endless money on those fancy name brand makeup remover wipes? All you really need is a cotton ball or swab an a little coconut oil. Gently wipe the area you want to cleanse, and follow up with a warm washcloth. It loosens up even the most stubborn mascara, while leaving your skin soft and smooth. The best part? NO CHEMICALS!

4. Bug Repellent

Use coconut oil and tea tree oil in a spray bottle to create a spray on bug repellent that is absent of chemicals and strong scents. Be sure to store your homemade bug spray in a warm area so that the coconut oil does not solidify in your spray bottle.

5. Sunburns

Coconut oil is great for soothing sunburns too! I suggest blending some coconut oil with natural aloe for your sunburn relief. It really does work wonders!

6. Foot moisturizer

If you haven't picked up on it yet, one of coconut oils strong points is its ability to moisturize. One of my favorite uses for coconut oil is an overnight foot moisturizer. After my night shower, I use a whipped coconut oil ( butter) to moisturize my feet to prevent hard, dry patches on my heels and the balls of my feet.

7. Breath Freshener

This is actually called oil pulling. Take a teaspoon of coconut oil and hold it in your mouth until it melts, then swish it around for 5-10 minutes. This may seem like a long time, but you don't have to do it daily. Because of the anti-fungal properties in coconut oil, doing this will remove toxins and germs from your mouth, including those germs that cause bad breath.

8. Pre-Make up Primer

In addition to removing make-up, coconut oil also acts as a fantastic moisturizing primer for your face. Smooth a small amount onto your face before beginning your make up routine and you will find that your foundations and concealers will look flawless!

There you have my personal favorite uses of the magnificent coconut oil!

With love,

xoxo Curly Kay
